Martina Lee Strickland and Richard Greene join Clever Care Health Plan's executive leadership team

The first half of 2023 has brought many exciting announcements and growth opportunities for Clever Care. The company’s membership has grown rapidly. Clever Care also welcomed new investors including Google Ventures and Point32 as it closed its Series C funding round. The communities Clever Care serves see the benefits of having a whole-health Medicare Advantage plan option that focuses on their unique cultural values through direct in-language services and a culturally-specific healthcare infrastructure. Clever Care also announced the addition of Karen Walker Johnson to its Board of Directors. Karen is a long-time veteran of high-profile healthcare companies in Southern California. She has held roles such as interim CEO of March of Dimes and Regional President for WellCare. To supplement the company’s continued rapid growth, Clever Care is pleased to announce the hirings of Martina Lee Strickland as Chief Growth Officer (overseeing Sales, Marketing, and Product) and Richard Greene as Chief Financial Officer. Clever Care Co-Founder Hiep Pham will continue to serve as the company’s Market Chief Financial Officer.

Martina and Richard bring an impressive catalog of experience in delivering company growth within the healthcare industry. “Their expertise will bolster our retention and growth efforts and better enable us to implement strategic channel marketing and sales strategies unique to the multicultural markets we serve,” said Hiep Pham, Co-Founder and Market CFO at Clever Care Health Plan.  

As Chief Growth Officer at Clever Care Health Plan, Martina Lee Strickland brings a wealth of experience in strategic sales, business development, marketing, channel development, and cross-selling strategies from her time at UnitedHealthcare, Anthem, and Centene. These prior roles provided her with deep expertise in medical groups and Medicare membership growth, training, branding, and retention in multicultural markets.  

Richard brings extensive knowledge and experience as a financial healthcare executive. Richard previously served as the Chief Operating Officer/Chief Financial Officer at AppleCare Medical Management (a subsidiary of Optum) and provided financial leadership from 1996 to 2010 as Chief Financial Officer at Arcadian Management Services, Physician WebLink, and PacifiCare Health Systems.
